Fighting Obesity: Eating to be healthy and lean 310806

Filed under: Uncategorized — by berby @ 11:42 am

Hey friends, A Good Article on “Fighting Obesity – Eating to be healthy and lean”.

Everyone thinks that what you eat is key to controlling body weight. And that’s true … sort of.

But how many calories you burn every day can offset extra calories that you take in. And even though people may be eating more calories than they did 50 years ago, they are moving even less and therefore burning even fewer calories through activity than before sedentary, automated lives became the norm.

Studies on populations like the Amish and the Aborigines who don’t use much electricity have found that they move doing daily tasks for about eight hours a day. They aren’t training for marathons, but they are active during most waking hours. The point? It’s crucial that you move more all day, every day to offset what you eat.

Although moving more is the key message of this series, you do still need to watch what goes in your mouth. An excellent way to do that is to consume more good-for-you food. To do that it may be helpful to shy away from diet-think and look at what you eat from a whole new perspective…

A New Way to View Eating

One overlooked aspect of food you eat is its ability to nourish your body. So many people get fixated on how many calories or fat grams or carbs they take in that they fail to recognize what’s most important—whether they are getting the nutrients they need.

Every cell has a specific function. And how that cell operates depends on if it has vitamins, minerals and other biochemicals to help it do its thing. These are obtained or made from the food you eat. Sure, your body can cope when it doesn’t get everything it needs. But like a faulty engine or a leaky roof, it’s not working at its best and may eventually fall into serious disrepair.
Early signs that you may not be well nourished can be poor skin (acne, rashes, pale skin tone), slow healing, a tendency

Early signs that you may not be well nourished can be poor skin (acne, rashes, pale skin tone), slow healing, a tendency to bruise, headaches, feeling sluggish, cloudy eyes, poor memory and reaction times, heavy limbs and a multitude of other symptoms. If you don’t feel or look 100 percent, a major contributor may be a poor diet. You need to understand too that a vitamin and mineral supplement is not enough to cover your bases because there are nutritious components in foods that haven’t been identified by scientists yet. So you can still be missing out if you are not eating enough good food.

Eating Rules to Live By

You may be hoping for the perfect diet or eating plan. I’m not going to go into detail about calorie counting. Any diet will work in the short term. And whether a particular diet admits to it, all diets work based on cutting calories. But not all diets nourish you as they should.

Instead, you should “diet” without dieting by following five key principles for every meal. If you focus on nourishment rather than deprivation, over time, you’ll fuel your body with what it needs and automatically cut down on the bad stuff that keeps you fat. If you make these changes along with moving more, you will lose weight and you will keep it off forever..

Here are five eating rules to live by:

1. Eat as many veggies as you can.

Never limit your vegetables. Veggies have so few calories and are so ripe in nutrients and fiber that you should eat them at every meal, every day. Picture this: three giant dinner plates filled with 1 cup of broccoli, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1 cup of baby carrots, 1 cup of yellow squash, 1 cup of cucumbers, 1 cup of spinach, 1 cup of red peppers, 1 cup of tomatoes and one portobello mushroom … this heaping slab of vegetables has about 200 calories! Yet you could probably not eat all of it at one sitting—you’d be too full.

But you could easily drink one super-sized soda and take in almost three times as many calories, or eat a small cheeseburger and take in 400 calories. Add fries and a shake and you’d eat about five times as many calories as you’d get from that veggie smorgasbord . Get the picture? If you need to feel full when you eat, the key is to fill up with good stuff.

If you don’t find most vegetables appetizing, find some that you like. Or disguise them. Sprinkle grated cheese, olive oil, Tabasco, tomato sauce or pesto sauce on them. Even if you add a couple of hundred calories worth of a topping, you’ll still eat fewer calories in total than you would if you had a fast-food or processed-food item.

Throw extra veggies into everything you make at home: sandwiches, eggs, casseroles, burgers, pizza, soups, frozen dinners, pasta. If you eat out, always order vegetable side dishes or veggie toppings on pastas, pizza, sandwiches and burgers.

2. Drink no cal or low cal.

Liquid calories don’t seem to register as extra caloric intake in the body. As a result, your body doesn’t dial down how much you eat later, you simply store the extra calories from that soda as fat. So cultivate a taste for water to soothe your palate. Or unsweetened tea. Or add a splash of juice to a glass of water. If you knock out the sodas, juices, energy drinks, smoothies, beer, wine and coffee concoctions, you can save hundreds, even thousands, of calories every single day. Depending on how much you drink, if you simply switched to no-cal drinks, you could drop pounds in a matter of months.

3. Eat more fruit.

Several fad diets spread the nasty rumor that fruit is fattening. It’s not and you should eat as much of it as possible. Sure, any food calories add up. But find one person who got fat from eating too many oranges, bananas and watermelon. People get fat from eating too much fried food, fast food, sugar drinks and processed items. Eat fruit every day, every snack, every meal if you can. Eat it in place of a sweet snack, or halve your dessert and include fruit.

4. Eat more good fats.

Certain items like avocados, nuts and olives have a reputation for being fattening and so many people avoid them. Not a good idea. These contain fats that your body needs.

  • Munch on nuts every day. Eight walnut halves, about a handful, have around 100 calories and lots of fiber. One candy bar has over 200.
  • Snack on olives. Ten black olives have about 50 calories. One small order of fries has about 300. The olives have fewer calories but are mostly healthy unsaturated fat. The fries have more calories and are high in bad, saturated fat.
  • Add avocados to dishes. Spread guacamole instead of butter on a piece of whole-grain toast: Yum! A half an avocado has 150 calories—and healthy unsaturated fat along with vitamins and minerals. Add an avocado to a tomato and basil salad along with a splash of olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper and your dish is less than 200 calories. Compare that to a classic Cobb salad, which can be more than 600 calories and high in saturated fat.

5. Never skip breakfast.

Many overweight people eat late at night then wake up not hungry and skip breakfast. This is a recipe for overeating. If you fuel your body with small portions of food at regular intervals, you are less likely to get cravings and binge. Plus you are more likely to have less body fat since dramatic fluctuations in energy intake encourage your body to store more fat.

If you make these long-term lifestyle changes, which will improve rather than drastically alter the way you eat, you’ll feel better, get healthier and slim down.

Team Fat Tigers 300806

Filed under: Uncategorized — by berby @ 2:20 am

Now is 2am in the morn thu. Damn shack after “chai teh” (Kopi and tea meeting) with the TFTs (Team Fat Tigers) but I was really happy cos I enjoyed myself so much today, even though it was raining and we didnt go roller blading but the TFT did something exciting today.

Kenji dear laughed till his stomach ache….me too….even michael – I never heard him laugh so loud and happy before…we are really so happy together….

We met up for dinner at the Hongkong Cafe at East Coast Road and after dinner we proceeded to have tea and kopi and beer somewhere else…

Wat is so exciting? Cos we are finally a real team – we have our own webpage, our own blog, our own log, our own photo space, our own members. Sorry the site is by invited members only…. And we are planning our own uniforms as a team with logos and pictures specially designed by our Asia Pacific Technical Support Director Mr Michael and Asia Pacific Communications Director Mr Jimmy. Our logo is tentatively this on our group webpage:

Team Fat Tigers…

We are still considering many other logos and deciding on the design of our T-shirt. We are very good….we have drink sponsors and even considered a MASCOT….heehee…

And the history of the TFT came like this – it all started from Dota (Warcraft Frozen Throne). They play lan games almost every sat and everytime they play they always team up and when they attack, they always say “Go Go Go GO GO Go…” so initially everyone tot it sounded like the SWAT team in action. So they started off at the “飞虎队”.

Then after the makan sessions, we started to call ourselves “肥虎队” cos we getting extra spare tyres…. So we are training hard to become the original “飞虎队”. So for now we be humble and call ourselves the “Team Fat Tigers”. Soon we will call ourselves “Team Fit Tigers”…

roller blading 280806

Filed under: Uncategorized — by berby @ 12:18 am

Haha you wun believe it….on saturday after the KTV session with the Fat Tigers Squad we went to Bedok Market to have supper at 2plus am in the morn….stylo rite….

We had Bah Chor Mee and then I reached home and slept around 4plus am in the morn…

The next morn Sunday, I woke up at 7am to pick up my aunts cos we arranged to go Mt Faber. And we went to have breakfast at Mt Faber (they 打包 – packed a 爱心餐 – breakfast from their hearts – for me)…so I enjoyed the scenery while taking my breakfast….so nice…there was a soft breeze blowing and the birds were chirping on the trees and the morn air was so crisp and clear….

When the gates finally opened at 8.30am, we went up to the viewing gallery and watched the horizon of singapore….so nice….

And after that I decided to go get my roller blades at Giant, so I dragged all of them there. Actually they wanted to go for lunch too la…so they tagged along… I didn’t know which Giant that Jimmy and Forest went to on saturday so I presumed that since our dinner was at Katong, I jus simply need to find the nearest Giant la….which happens to be Marine parade. But when I reached there I couldn’t find the blades they mentioned, so I sms him saying I was there at Giant and I couldn’t find the blades. Jimmy replied that they were in the cart outside Giant so I went to look but I couldn’t find them…so I sms him saying I combed the whole building but I dun see the blades….and guess wat….they saw the blades at Giant in Marina Square…..really stupid me….trying to be too smart….

Anyway, there was another purpose to go Marine Parade – cos my mum and aunts wanted to get some famous beancurd thingy “Dao Kua Bao” from Katong….so I drove them there lor…and after that I was really determined to get my blades so we went down to Giant at Marina Square….and I finally got my pair of roller blades complete with my helmet and 3 pairs of elbow, knee and palm guards….and the best part is….my mum paid for all of them….thanks mum….cos she wanted me to get a proper job and be healthy.

Then I found out from the nice salesman that the offer was the last day so I mass-smsed the Fat Tigers Squad except for Mr Jerry and Mr Alvin cos I dun have their numbers….and guess wat….CEO and family wanted to get the roller blades too, together with kenji dear.

So I sent my aunts and mum back home and detoured to get kenji dear.

We met up with the CEO and family at 2plus pm and together we bought 6 pairs of roller blades from the guy, who was grinning ear to ear….meanwhile since I already got my roller blades I tried to be part time salesgal by helping people fit their blades and giving advice on how to wear them and so on and so forth…but sadly, I dun get commission…. but its ok….cos it feels good to help people.

And after that we went back home to grab our stuff and and we went roller blading for the 1st time together at West Coast Park (Patrick, Michelle, Vivian, Elvin, Ivan, Kenji and me). The record breaker is Michelle who fell 1st – admire her courage cos I damn scared to fall – think I will cry leh…and another record breaker is Ivan who fell the most times, but something good out of this session – he knows how to brake properly now, unlike me still banging lamposts and trees jus to brake…

The best skater is Vivian cos she’s really hard working and the most courageous skater is Elvin cos he really put in all his effort to skate. Admire the 2 teenagers who have such great parents who bring them out on such sports and get involved in the sport themselves together….

Kenji dear couldn’t move cos of his 3mths twins in his belly and although Patrick is around 3 mths pregnant too, patrick could at least move around….

And after our roller blading session we went to a hawker centre near to WTC to have supper. Patrick ordered sting ray, carrot cake, chicken wings, Fried Oyster with egg, Satay and the white snails fried with Chai Poh (salted radish). I also had a whole coconut…..so refreshing….jus like the guys having beer after a great workout in roller blading…

And our next roller blading session will be on wednesday…. keep you updated…. who wans to sign up for the roller blading course? And the makan session tat will follow after the great workout….I know it defeats the purpose in the great workout but who cares….I SIMPLY LOVE TO EAT NOW….

Firstly I would like to thank readers who were so concerned enough about me to read my blog and leave constructive comments. Then I would like to thank the people who cared for me enough to leave comments thinking that they might help me improve and people who thought that by leaving certain destructive comments would bring me down – a big thank you cos it only goes to show the difference in thinking, the difference in class and the difference in mentality…

Recently I received a comment from *me* for my post “17th KTV nite and some TOTs…180806″ and this is wat *me* commented…

*me* said…
Hello Little Princess,Actually I don’t know you — just strolled in by accident… but reading your posts… can’t help but see depression only.

As much as you keep saying you have true friends around you and you don’t give a sh** in the world about the “rubbish”, you seem to keep mentioning “friends who have failed you” over and over. I fail to see the closure that you think or want to believe that you have.

If you believe you have already achieved closure, then write about some other stuff other than these purported rubbish. I am sure you will be able to figure something out (unless you have nothing better to write other than to dwell on your past).

Yes, friends come and go, true friends, what not… but whatever it is, if you have not seen the truth yourself (and I mean with your own two eyes), may I suggest that you don’t assume, and don’t believe everything you hear. You’ll be amazed what some people will say to get on your good graces.

And, even if people did hurt you, I don’t think it is right to call people “rubbish”. That’s the lowest that one will go and I think you would have more class than that.

But anyway, it is YOUR blog, and you have the right to bitch about anything you want, but in the end, what you say just shows what kind of person you are. And I’m not here to judge by all means, whatever judging of one person would and should come by God himself when the time is near.

Last but not least, if you don’t want people to hurt you, don’t hurt others first. The funny thing about karma is that, what goes around, comes around.

Little Princess (which happens to be me) replied…

Hi Me,Interesting how well you should know me….seem to know about depression and seem to know the history of my friendships and true friends – you seemed to know enough to comment.

There’s a reason for everything I do, including my blog entries…..precisely you dun know me and my circle of friends, I wonder how much you know to assume that depression is in and wat do you really know enough to comment as such?

There are different ways of closure. My way may not be the best way but at least I am open to face it and am able to talk about it instead of jus hiding away.

Wat closure are you looking at? Wat kind?

I have no regrets about mentioning rubbish in my life and I will gladly still continue to do so because you have no idea about how dirty this rubbish is – and maybe you have not met these rubbish yet, so congrats to you, maybe my life isn’t as good as yours – but I am thankful to meet these rubbish because I learnt that there are rubbish around indeed.

I’m dwelling on the past? Who? Me? If I really am dwelling on the past and write on past issues about these rubbish then I think these rubbish will be so ashamed that they may jus simply turn into dust immediately.

And I stand firm on my comments about rubbish – maybe to you rubbish is degrading….maybe someone called you rubbish before or???? Well, its up to individual’s likes, norms and decisions. Dun make a decision for me – because our rubbish have different standards…..If you think its not very high class to call them rubbish, dun stay around my blog because you think too highly of yourself….and not the opposite….

These true friends are people who uses their heart and soul combined with action to prove themselves worthy. And again, thanks to the rubbish in my life, I am able to clearly confirm that this group of people are not rubbish because I have seen rubbish….and I dun think they need you to doubt them cos you are not in the group and you have not experience their worthiness so I kindly ask you to keep your comments on this issue to yourself – and since you can comment as such, maybe sadly you have no true friends to feel proud of….

People who read my blog and who know me, knows that words can get worse. And its ok if strangers pass by and find it too offensive, like you, because as I said, you are not around me, you dun know me, how much or how well do you know enough to comment? I dun think I am hurting anyone on purpose.

I think we jus have different opinions, but I kindly request you keep your comments to yourself because you do not know me enough to comment. I sincerely thank you for your concern – you are free to read my blog and comment again, I welcome feedback at all times…..Meanwhile, unless we get to know each other better, you dun wan to make yourself look foolish by commenting when you dun know me well rite?

And in case you think you have seen many people such as me and categorised me as though you have known me so well, I dun understand why you bother to comment to “help”…..

Then *me* replied again…

I’m just happened to read your blog, if you don’t want people to read it, just write a diary instead of blog…

By the way, I don’t even know you & I hope I won’t have this kind of friend too.

Just hope that you won’t have this kind of problem between your circle of friends infuture. God Bless.

Then I replied again…

I don’t stop anyone from reading my blog – in fact I welcome everyone to read my blog. And the reason I write a blog and not a diary is because I have nothing to hide from anyone.

I was jus telling you in case you find it offensive you can have a choice to stay away. But if you feel you can accept it then you are still welcome to poke ur nose here. You are not a robot and I cannot stop anyone from saying anything – cos I myself will stay away from the things I may not like.

You were already bias when you wrote the 1st comment, because the comments are not constructive at all. I dun know if you hope not to have friends like rubbish??? Or have friends like me.

Anyway, as I said maybe its your good fortune that you have not come across rubbish yet – if you did come across rubbish before and regard yourself as high class enough not to categorize them as rubbish, then all I can say is maybe they did not hurt you enough for you to do so or you have not faced the full reality that they are rubbish or maybe they are around you but you are unable to see that they are rubbish.

If you hope not to have me as a friend, its absolutely fine with me for the following reasons.

1) You do not know me well enough but you are making a fool of yourself by commenting when you do not have the full facts – Jus how well and how much DO YOU KNOW?

2) Precisely you do not know me or rubbish well enough, you still poke ur nose in by writing a comment as though YOU KNOW. If it was a general comment I would respect you but people who know wat I am writing and know me, can see wat your intentions are…..but do you know wat actually I am writing or not? I dun think you know cos the post wasn’t meant for you – its meant for certain people who know wat’s going on.

So why the comment when its not meant for you – unless it affected you – well I’m sorry if it affected you. But there are only certain groups of people who get affected – the busybodies who assume they know everything (in the end it backfires cos they dun really know), the people who knows (my friends – but they dun give comments such as you because they are not involved in the whole thing) and lastly the people involved.

You seemed so angry in your last comment. Pls don’t. This thing has got nothing to do with you and pls dun let it affect you. Thank you sincerely for hoping tat such things will not happen in my circle of friends. I cannot guarantee that for other people but I can confirm, approve and certify the loyalty for my friends around me now because I experienced it myself.

Again, you are still welcome to read my blog and comment. After all, its just a difference in opinions and the depth of the things you know….but 1 word of advice to everyone – comment wisely cos it shows…..

——————————————

So wat you people think? Normal people who wan to say something would jus leave a tagboard message rite? Dun need to write such a long love letter to me rite? Why would *me* wan to do the opposite? Is *me* afraid tat leaving a message on the tagboard can trace *me* down? But I can also trace the identity of *me* by searching the server *me* came from and trace its IP address and so on and so forth….but I wun do it….cos I can’t be bothered to know….

Anyway thanks to Kenji and Harddo gei for their comments too. There are jus people with difference in opinions and mentality and we cannot stop all of them from saying things – so jus let them say wat they like to say, anyway I cannot control their mouths, their minds and I certainly dun wish to do so….the most I jus dun listen or see the things I dun wan to hear or see – because instead of doing the impossible (control them), I control myself (by shutting them out).

And to Ms rubbish. I know you know. And I do not regret the things I said. And if I have a chance to turn back time, I will still choose to know you in the past. Because you showed me wat rubbish can be, although sometimes the memories you leave to me may be sweet like sweet wrappers but I also get rubbish that stink like smelly socks and shit. But still I wan to thank you for leaving me the good memories and thank you for the hurt because now I am able to see tat there are better people than you that are worth treasuring….

Happy Birthday Junior 250806

Filed under: Uncategorized — by berby @ 11:46 am

Yesterday was Junior’s 1st year old birthday. Daddy Dino and Mummy Dino brought him to East Coast Parkway to celebrate his birthday with many of the people who wuv him and the people he wuv.

Daddy Dino picked up Junior at bradel at 5.30pm and we went to pick up Godma Lena at 6pm but she still trimming her hair specially for Junior’s birthday party so we waited. Then Junior finally got to meet his 2 beauties again and he was so damn excited.

We travelled to East Coast Parkway where the adults had dinner at the hawker centre. Then we went to bring Junior and his 2 beauties from the car cos we left them alone to make out…

Then all of us got ready to cut the cake. I tried the cake – its made from human ingredients like flour, sugar, cream, eggs, milk but its not too sweet and salty so it is suitable for doggies.

Dino Junior’s Birthday Cake…

Cos the birthday cake was something they didnt eat before, Coco ate 3 pieces, Brandy had 2 and Junior also had about 1.5 slices….Between them they finished half the cake….

And then the group started to watch the babies do funny stuff like barking, tricks like standing, sitting, hands, down and foreplay between Junior and Brandy…

Junior and Brandy doing their foreplay stuff…

Then there was this rumoured couple….Dunno why Ivan instantly liked Coco, he kept hugging her, holding her, rubbing her, and tried to kiss her too….He even brought her for a walk to Bedok Jetty and back….wa….

Actually my Asia Pacific Technical Director improved alot….he is using Coco as a role model 1st….to practice his skills….then he will be more confident for Ms BBGG…and why he chose Coco – Cos she is a sporty chick too…. She is also BBGG….hahahahaha…..

And he really improved cos he’s learning how to take care of dogs cos he knows Ms BBGG like dogs too and I guess he must be looking forward to have a “son” or “daughter” with her soon….like me (mum) and Junior (son), Lena (mum) and Coco and Brandy (daughters)…

Good one brother… Dun practice too long hor….must have action soon….we are all behind you….Kopi Kid is waiting….Alvin is waiting…..Kerin Mei is waiting hor….

To Ms Lena, Ms Anna, Ms Rachel and Mr Glenn 230806

Filed under: Uncategorized — by berby @ 7:28 pm

Dedicated to Ms Lena, Ms Anna, Ms Rachel and Mr. Glenn:

Feelings play a fool of humans. Feelings toy humans around. Everyone has 2 sides – the soft and the hard side. It all depends on which side you allow to surface.

Someone you love very much. Someone you thought was the perfect man/gal in your life. When you were with that someone, you felt the happiest and the luckiest gal/guy on earth. You gave your heart. You gave almost everything except your sanity. No one can come into your shoes and understand the things you sacrificed, the things you done for them, the love you have for them. Everything was such a fairy-tale to you where you thought the prince and princess would live happily forever and you would give up everything just to make things work.

Then things became a nightmare when he said the feelings not the same, he/she doesn’t love you, he/she does things to hurt you or he/she falls in love with someone else.

You love him/her so much. Will you be able to snap your fingers and fall in love with someone else? Think why they can do it. It’s not because you didn’t do enough or didn’t give your best. How can you not give your best or do enough when you are so in love with them. But why they can do such things to you?

Because they take you for granted. It’s them who want more. You dun owe them, you dun need to hurt to repay them, you dun need to hurt at all, cos the truth is showing you that he/she doesn’t love you the way and the amount you are supposed to be loved.

Of cos it hurts. Because things used to be so beautiful but suddenly everything fell apart. You are taken by surprise by how much it can hurt. It hurt so badly you cannot breathe, it hurt so badly you will do anything else to stop this pain, and it hurt so much you wished you were dead.

But what are you hurting for? Have you thought of why you are hurting?

Are you hurting because you felt so loved once and now you dun have such a feeling in you now? All are left are bitterness and coldness? – when he/she was with you, you were so occupied with him/her you dun have time to think about your feelings, you only experienced the loving feeling with him/her when you were with him/her. Tat is why when they went away your time is with yourself only and you feel lonely, feel bitter, and feel cold. – Open up your world; widen your circle of friends. Keep yourself occupied so that you wun have much time to think about such things. Keep yourself busy with enjoying life, and knowing better people.

Sometimes they do pop up in your mind and heart for no reason and when you feel the sourness in your heart, you can choose to 1) immerse in the sadness or 2) face the issue, draw a line once and for all and then push them one side and move on. Because you control you, if it’s hurting you, you are actually hurting yourself. They didn’t come to inflict hurt on you each time, but why you hurt each time is because you are holding on to the hurt inside.

If 1) immerse in the sadness, no one can stop you. You will just feel more terrible after each episode cos nothing can be the same anymore but you are trying to go back to the past where it is not possible. Can a broken vase be mended so nicely you can’t see the cracks? No. You can only start all over again and cast another new vase, but each vase is gonna be different.

If 2) face the issue, draw a line once and for all and then push them one side and move on. It may seem so difficult to do. You feel so hard-hearted in doing so, but it’s for your own good. People feel better when good and better things come into their lives, not when the bad and shit things come. It’s difficult cos it means to face all the pain and hurt again. Then wrap it all up, draw a line and push it one side. Difficult cos things happened before, there are so many memories, how to do it rite? It needs time and lots of perseverance.

So when you decide to start will determine how strong you are and how much you wan a better life soon. Cos holding on like this will never give you a better life. Never. It only makes you more miserable by holding on. Cos if they really love you, you would be happily with them now, not hurting now and crying and feeling so painful inside you (and outside you – the TATTOO). If they really love you they won’t bear to put you thru such a torture in life. They wan better, but the one they wan is not you, so why you wan to waste your time holding on to them? Why them when their one is not you? If they decide tat you (the best one) is not the best for them, then I am DAMN sure you deserve better and the next guy/gal in your life would have gotten a treasure if they have you.

So wake up and look for THE RIGHT ONE in your life.
